New Art, Photography by Seniors on Display

Nova Scotians age 50 or older are showing creativity has no age limit at the Seniors Art and Photo Gallery.

Several new works of art and photography by older Nova Scotians are available for viewing by the public.

"Art and photography are rewarding hobbies. I'm impressed by the talents our seniors have and the quality of the pieces," said Leo Glavine, Minister of Seniors. "Our gallery welcomes artists of all skill levels who want to share their creativity and passion with everyone."

The gallery provides a free, central location for seniors to display and sell their works.

"Painting is something that I've loved to do for much of my life. When I heard of the seniors' gallery, it was such an incentive for me to produce some work that would actually be out in public," said Pia Popowich, an amateur artist who recently started submitting her pieces to the gallery.

"I am strictly an amateur, but it gives me such a thrill to be part of the art displays. It has been a source of fun and a bit of validation for an activity that allows me to nurture my creative side - and my kids are impressed!"

The gallery is open to the public daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the third floor foyer of the World Trade and Convention Centre, 1800 Argyle St., Halifax. Gallery displays change every three months. Admission is free.
