Changes Introduced to Property Valuation Services Corporation Act
Amendments were introduced today, March 28, to the Property Valuation Services Corporation (PVSC) Act to remove the Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations representative from the board.
"When assessment responsibilities moved from the provincial government to the corporation, the deputy minister was appointed to the board to provide continuity and regular communications through the transition," said Mark Furey, Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations. "Since the corporation was formed, we have established ongoing communications through regular meetings at the staff levels and those will continue."
The amendments also allow the corporation to appoint a third independent member to the board.
"We feel these changes will provide an opportunity to build upon the independence of the board, and create greater representation for Nova Scotia property owners," said Russell Walker, chair of the corporation's board of directors.
The Property Valuation Services Corporation is a municipally funded corporation that provides property assessment services in the province.
