Province Supports Holocaust Education Week

Teachers are encouraged to share books, videos and other relevant available resources with students during Holocaust Education Week, Nov. 2-9.

"There are many resources available to educators that tell the story of the atrocities that were committed during the Holocaust," said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Karen Casey. "I am encouraging all teachers to use the resources, talk to students and continue to promote cross-cultural understanding and human rights education across Nova Scotia."

This school year, the department is providing the Elie Wiesel's novel Night to high schools across the province to support Holocaust Education Week. Night will be used in Canadian History 11, Global History 12 and Advanced Global History 12 courses.

Over the past several years, the department has provided schools with a variety of novels and Holocaust education resources, including copies of Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl.

The learning resources technology division has 78 titles available through the online library about the Holocaust. Teachers can access the online library through EduPortal in the Educators section at www.novascotia.ca/education .
