Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (Oct. 2007 - Feb. 2021)

NEW WORK


INVERNESS COUNTY: Cranton Bridge, Weight Restriction

The Cranton Bridge, on the Cranton Cross Road between West Big Intervale Road and East Big Intervale Road, is restricted to a weight of 18 tonnes or less.

Traffic signals will be set up at the bridge during the next week. The bridge will be reduced to one lane.

There is an alternate route over the Portree Bridge on Hatchery Road.


PICTOU COUNTY: Avondale Bridge

Avondale Bridge, 200 metres east of Piedmont, will be closed for repairs, except to local traffic, until Tuesday, Dec. 23.

A detour is in place.


PICTOU COUNTY: Joudrey Bridge

Joudrey Bridge on Joudrey Road, between Mountain Road and Louisville Road in River John, will be closed for repairs from Monday, Dec. 22, until Friday, Jan. 9.

A detour route is in place.


CONTINUING WORK


CAPE BRETON REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY: Sydney River Bridge

The Sydney River Bridge on Keltic Drive is expected to open for vehicles next week. The exact date will be announced when it is known. Work is still needed on the active transportation lane, which will open in the new year. The free shuttle bus, between Coxheath Arena (305 Keltic Dr.) and Walmart (65 Keltic Dr.), will remain in service until the active transportation lane is open. COLCHESTER COUNTY: Arch Hayman Bridge

Matheson Brook Road is closed until Monday, Dec. 22, between Route 311 and Murphy Road during repairs to the Arch Hayman Bridge.

A detour route is in place.


COLCHESTER/HANTS COUNTIES: Highway 102, Shubenacadie River

Construction is taking place on Highway 102 at the bridges over the Shubenacadie River, until September.

A detour bridge allows two lanes of traffic in both directions; however, drivers are urged to travel with extra caution in the area.


CUMBERLAND COUNTY: Eddy Road

Eddy Road to Fort Lawrence, near Amherst, Cumberland Co., is closed until further notice.


DIGBY COUNTY: Melanson Mills Bridge

Melanson Mills Bridge on Marc Comeau Road is closed until further notice, to replace the bridge deck.

A detour route is in place.


GUYSBOROUGH COUNTY: Melford Brook Bridge

The Melford Brook Bridge, on Route 344 at Middle Melford, is closed. A two-lane detour bridge is in place until a permanent bridge is built. The speed limit is reduced to 60 km/h and warning signs are in place.


HANTS COUNTY: Route 236

Traffic on Route 236, between Route 215 and Gosse Bridge, is reduced to one lane for slope repairs. The work is scheduled to be completed Jan. 15.


INVERNESS COUNTY: Crowdis Bridge

Crowdis Bridge is closed until further notice for repairs. A detour is available via Crowdis Cross Road, West Big Interval Road and Hatchery Road.


INVERNESS COUNTY: West Lake Ainslie Road

The Hayes River Bridge on West Lake Ainslie Road has a 15-tonne weight restriction.


KINGS COUNTY: Whitman Bridge

Whitman Bridge, on Whitman Road between Maple Avenue and Ward Road in Aylesford, is closed for repairs until further notice.

The detour route is Maple Avenue, Victoria Road and Ward Road.


LUNENBURG COUNTY: Highway 103

The bridge on Highway 103 over Barrys Brook, east of Exit 7, will have alternating lane closures for concrete and asphalt repair, as well as installation of new bridge rails.

Work will last until the end of December. Temporary traffic signals are in place.


LUNENBURG COUNTY: Varner Bridge

Work is underway on a new bridge beside the existing Varner Bridge on Route 208 near New Germany. The bridge is open during construction, but there may be occasional, brief closures during normal construction activities. Drivers should use extra caution in the area.

The new, two-lane bridge will be completed in 2015.


VICTORIA COUNTY: Gillis Bridge

Gillis Bridge on North Branch Road, just past Uisge Ban (USH-AK BAHN) Falls Provincial Park, is closed until further notice. Access to the park is not affected.
