Call for Nominations for Council of the Federation Literacy Award

Nova Scotians can recognize outstanding contributions to literacy and learning by nominating someone for the Council of the Federation Literacy Award.

"Improved literacy changes lives, it's the first step to success in classrooms, communities and workplaces," said Premier Stephen McNeil. "Through literacy, we all have the chance to create our own opportunities, pursue meaningful careers and contribute to our communities."

Each year, Canada's premiers present an adult learner or organization in each province and territory with an award for learning and leadership progress in their community, workplace or school. The award also recognizes the role literacy plays in the social and economic health of Canadians.

"There's no doubt a more literate Nova Scotia benefits us all," said Premier McNeil. "Literacy is a tool for personal empowerment, it's what allows us to understand, interpret, communicate, create and inspire."

The winner is selected by a review committee. The premier will present the winner with a medallion and a certificate of merit at a ceremony in the fall.
