NSLC Announces Year-end Results

Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation

The Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation (NSLC) released its year-end results today, June 17, for April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2015.

Compared to last year:

  • Net income (earnings) totalled $228 million, down $0.3 million or 0.1 per cent
  • Total sales were $591 million, down $1.9 million
  • Total volume of alcohol sold was down 0.8 per cent, following a 2.8 per cent decline in the prior year
  • Overall retail customer transactions (purchases) were down 1.7 per cent, however, the average dollar value of each transaction grew by 1.5 per cent

"In spite of continued volume declines and fewer customer transactions, we exceeded our profit expectations for the year," said Bret Mitchell, NSLC president and CEO. "And accounting for the full year impact of our licensee discount program and the sale of properties the year prior, our net income was up by $1.96 million or 0.7 per cent."

Local product highlights were:

  • Nova Scotia wine sales rose 12 per cent to $11.6 million, building on the 10.6 per cent growth last year
  • Nova Scotia cider sales increased 55.4 per cent to $1.2 million on top of the 146 per cent increase the year prior
  • Nova Scotia craft beer sales rose 25.4 per cent to $5.1 million, building on the 22 per cent growth last year
  • Nova Scotia spirit sales grew by 80.7 per cent to $500,000 building on the 0.7 per cent growth last year
