Natural Resources (to July 2018)

Nova Scotians have until July 7, to register for a fun July weekend in Ellenwood Lake Provincial Park, Yarmouth Co., where they can learn about camping and other outdoor activities.

On July 18-19 the province will re-offer its Learn2Camp program. Tents and meals will be provided and participants need only bring bedding and some personal items.

"Learn2Camp is a great way to expose Nova Scotians and new Canadians to the camping lifestyle and the fun of enjoying the outdoors in our provincial parks," said Natural Resources Minister Zach Churchill. "A family of four can enjoy a camping weekend with meals and accommodation included for just $60."

The fee provides up to four people with an overnight stay. Up to two other people can be added for $10 each. The province supplies a loaner family-sized tent, and a flashlight or lantern. Saturday lunch and supper, as well as Sunday breakfast, are provided.

New campers will learn outdoor cooking, how to choose camping sites and outdoor cooking equipment, how to set up and break down camp, and campfire safety. Participants will also have the choice between learning fishing or kayaking skills from an instructor.

"Learn 2 Camp was a great opportunity for my family to unplug and experience camping with knowledgeable guides in a beautiful setting," said Nick Fry, a 2014 Learn2Camp participant. "My children learned to cook on the fire, pitch a tent, and connect with nature. They really loved it and want to do it again."

Learn2Camp is a partnership between the Department of Natural Resources, Canadian Tire and Coleman Canada.
