Energy and mines ministers from across the country concluded discussions on the responsible growth of Canada's natural resources and energy sectors at their annual meeting today, July 21, in Halifax.

"Working together, the federal, provincial and territorial governments can achieve further economic success and a lower carbon future from the responsible development of our energy sectors," said Energy Minister Michel Samson. "During the conference, we discussed the importance of advancing innovative research, technology and regulation and developing our domestic expertise and supply chain for the worldwide energy market."

All provinces and territories participated in the two-day Energy and Mines Ministers Conference. With about 250 delegates, including industry representatives, this year's conference attendance exceeded expectations.

"It was a pleasure to host mines ministers over the past several days," said Natural Resources Minister Zach Churchill. "The discussions regarding best practices, particularly in building public confidence in natural resource projects and creating the success factors for communities to benefit from mineral resource developments, will help create the best possible environment for responsible development."
