Province Helps Fund Ducks Unlimited Greenwing Centre Improvements

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

The provincial government is providing $200,000 over the next three years for improvements to Ducks Unlimited Canada's Greenwing Legacy Interpretive Centre and the Shubenacadie Provincial Wildlife Park.

"These improvements will enhance the visitor experience and draw more people to enjoy the Greenwing centre and the animals at the wildlife park," said MLA Margaret Miller, on behalf of Natural Resources Minister Lloyd Hines, at an announcement today, July 28, at the centre.

The Government of Canada is investing $400,000 in the project, through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, and Ducks Unlimited Canada is contributing $200,000.

Over the next year and a half, exhibits, the gift shop and air conditioning will be improved. The funding will also help create a food services area, a more accessible and welcoming entrance, new signs and trail improvements. A new, collaborative marketing plan will be designed for the centre and wildlife park.

The Greenwing Legacy Interpretive Centre and trail network opened in 2006 on four hectares of land. It is adjacent to the Shubenacadie Provincial Wildlife Park which allows visitors to see and learn about Nova Scotia wildlife. The centre offers hands-on educational programming and interactive displays on wetlands and wildlife. The park and wetland trail network showcase more than 26 species of mammals and 65 species of birds.
