Requests For Proposals Issued for Boat Harbour Site

Internal Services (June 2014 - May 2019)

Government is taking the next step to clean up Boat Harbour.

Requests for proposals have been issued for a hydrogeological study and a geotechnical and contaminant assessment of the Pictou County site.

"These assessments will give us a better understanding of the contaminants in Boat Harbour so we can plan for a successful cleanup," said Labi Kousoulis, Minister of Internal Services. "What we learn will also guide a trial remediation, which will help us understand the best technology to deal with the contaminated material."

The assessments, along with other work already underway, will give planners a better picture of surface and groundwater flow, topography and the condition of the basin.

"We are pleased to see the government is moving on this cleanup," said Pictou Landing First Nation Chief Andrea Paul. "This work will help us get closer to the day when Boat Harbour is finally closed and cleaned up."
