Government Helps Support New Playground for YWCA Spryfield

Health and Wellness

Children at the YWCA Spryfield Early Learning and Child Care Centre will soon enjoy a new playground thanks to an investment by the province.

Government will contribute $11,000, representing half the funding needed to build the playground.

"Government is committed to supporting environments that encourage children to be active and healthy," said MLA Brendan Maguire, on behalf of Health and Wellness Minister Leo Glavine.

"Investments like this one not only support our local communities, but they also help make sure our children grow up knowing the importance of physical activity."

The centre opened in 2012 and provides care to 70 children, ages six months to five-years old.

"The YWCA is committed to the highest level of excellence in child care, while remaining accessible for low-income families in our community," said Miia Suokonautio, YWCA executive director. "We are thrilled to have a new space where our children can play and our community can come together."

"We know that organizations like the YWCA here in Spryfield could not operate without the dedication and hard work of amazing volunteers, and the support of local businesses. The province is proud to be a partner in their work," said Mr. Maguire.

The playground will be completed by spring 2016.
