Health and Wellness

A tentative agreement was reached Wednesday, Nov. 18, between the employers and the association representing the province's medical residents.

"I am pleased we have reached a tentative agreement with our medical residents. They are an important part of our health-care system," said Premier Stephen McNeil. "This deal stays within our fiscal plan. I urge other unions to come to the table."

Details of the tentative agreement will not be released until the agreement is ratified by association members.

"This tentative agreement is good news and will bring greater stability to the system," said Health and Wellness Minister Leo Glavine.

Negotiations began on May 8. The parties met for four days. The agreement covers approximately 385 medical residents in Nova Scotia, and 540 in the Maritimes.

The last agreement with medical residents expired on June 30, 2014.
