2012 Double Homicide Case Added to Rewards Program

Police and the provincial government are hoping to receive more information about the homicides of Matthew Hebb and Earle Stewart through the Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program.

Anyone who shares information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for these homicides could receive up to $150,000.

"These families deserve answers," said Justice Minister Diana Whalen. "I urge anyone with information about these tragic deaths to please come forward and assist police in their investigation."

On the afternoon of Dec. 12, 2012, police and firefighters responded to a structure fire at 455 Highway 374 in Sheet Harbour where they found Mr. Hebb and Mr. Stewart deceased inside the structure.

"Our investigators are asking anyone who might have information on the murders of Mr. Hebb and Mr. Stewart to contact police," said acting Officer-in-Charge of Halifax District RCMP Dennis Daley. "The Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes program is an important information-gathering tool. We know that personal circumstances change and maybe people who would not have come forward in the past may now come forward with information to police that can assist us in finding the persons responsible."

Police believe there are people who have information that could result in an arrest and possible charges. Anyone with information should call the Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program at 1-888-710-9090.

Those who come forward with information must provide their name and contact information. They may be called to testify in court. All calls will be recorded.
