Nova Scotia's famous groundhog, Shubenacadie Sam, is now live online. Sam fans can watch via the Sam Cam to see the groundhog in advance of the public Groundhog Day ceremony, Feb. 2.

"Sam is well loved by groundhog groupies around the world and the online Sam Cam is one of the most popular internet cameras this time of year," said Natural Resources Minister Lloyd Hines. "I encourage everyone to watch Sam online and join us outside his home at the Shubenacadie Provincial Wildlife Park for Sam's annual winter weather prediction on Groundhog Day."

The best times to view Sam are 8 a.m., 11:45 a.m. and 4 p.m. when park staff feed and interact with their furry, four-legged forecaster. The Sam Cam is live at www.novascotiawebcams.com/en/webcams/shubenacadie-sam/ .

People can see Sam in person by attending the Groundhog Day ceremony at 7:30 a.m. at the wildlife park on Feb. 2. If he sees his shadow that morning, folklore says there will be six more weeks of winter. Sam’s Groundhog Day party can also be viewed via the Sam Cam.

Sam is also on twitter. Follow him via @ShubenacadieSam . Keep up to date with wildlife park activities at wildlifepark.novascotia.ca and like the wildlife park on Facebook.
