Funding Expands English-language Training for South Shore Newcomers

English as an Additional Language training for newcomers on the South Shore is expanding with funding announced as part of Budget 2016-2017.

"A welcoming Nova Scotia is a stronger Nova Scotia," said Immigration Minister Lena Metlege Diab. "Language training will help our newcomers on their path to success."

New Voice Language Academy, of Lunenburg, will receive $62,000 in immigrant settlement service funding. The investment will help New Voice expand its classes to complement the programming offered through the Teaching Immigrants English program.

"This funding has brought our community together in remarkable ways and has contributed to an amazing network of support for our newcomers, forming a safe and welcoming space for them to interact with other members of their new community," said Nicola Sattler, academic director of New Voice Language Academy.

"The way we have responded to the needs of refugees shows our strength and commitment to our communities," said Ms. Diab.
