Strengthening Disaster Response in Nova Scotia

Nova Scotia is working with its emergency management partners to test its ability to respond should a disaster strike.

Operation Adverse Juncture, led by the Emergency Management Office (EMO) and Joint Task Force Atlantic, is taking place until Thursday, June 16.

"We know that disasters can strike at any time," said Zach Churchill, Minister responsible for the Emergency Management Office. "Exercises like this allow us to work with many different departments and organizations to increase our collective capacity to manage any emergency that comes our way."

Thirty federal, provincial, municipal, private and non-profit organizations have been planning the exercise over the past several months.

"We're excited for every opportunity we can get to demonstrate the readiness of Canadian Armed Forced personnel to serve at home," said Rear Admiral John Newton, Commander of Joint Task Force Atlantic and Maritime Forces Atlantic. "Joint Task Force Atlantic is proud to be a trusted contributor with our partners and is always ready to support a whole of government response to an emergency situation."

The exercise includes simulated versions of media broadcasts and Twitter, and participants do not know in advance the situations they will face.
