Fires Update, Tuesday, Aug. 9, 8 p.m.

Following is a provincial fire update for Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 8 p.m.

  • weather this evening provided more favourable conditions for crews
  • Trunk 8 near Maitland Bridge, Annapolis Co., remains closed due to heavy smoke
  • the fire at Seven Mile Lake, Annapolis Co., was at 240 hectares this morning and is still not contained but saw limited growth today. Crews were successful today in building fire breaks in strategic areas
  • a new fire was reported in Ten Mile Lake, Queens Co. It is 8 hectares, with low flame activity due to favourable conditions, and crews hope to have it contained tonight
  • a new fire was reported in Clyde River, Shelburne Co. It is 2.5 hectares, with low flame activity due to favourable conditions, and crews hope to have it contained tonight
  • the fire at Perch Lake, Pictou Co., is contained
  • the fire in West Dalhousie, Annapolis Co., is contained and under control
  • the fire at Maitland Bridge, Annapolis Co., is contained. Some resources are expected to move from this area tomorrow to Seven Mile Lake
  • the fire at Greenfield, Queens Co., is contained and under control
  • the fire at Collingwood, Cumberland Co., is contained
  • sustained winds will continue to blow out of the northwest
  • a 20 person firefighter team is expected to arrive from New Brunswick tomorrow to help where needed
  • as of noon today, Aug. 9, travel and activities within the woods is restricted. People can still access beaches and provincial parks, but trail systems are restricted and the fire ban remains in effect.
