Government Waiving Disaster Financial Assistance Deductible

Emergency Management Office

The province is waiving the $1,000 deductible for people applying to the Disaster Financial Assistance Program as a result of the Oct. 10 storm.

"We understand how difficult this situation is for people and how disruptive it is in their lives," said Zach Churchill, Minister responsible for the Emergency Management Office. "We hope that by waiving the deductible it will make it easier for residents to complete repairs and rebuild their lives."

The program helps homeowners, small businesses, farmers and not-for-profit organizations recover from emergencies. It also provides support for municipalities.

In recognition of the extent of damage and hardship being experienced, the program will cover up to $200,000 per household which is an increase from $80,000.

Applications are available online at http://novascotia.ca/flooding and at several locations, including Access Nova Scotia Centres, MLA offices and town halls.

For assistance, call 1-866-424-5620 or email, emo@novascotia.ca .

Residents are asked to continue to assess damage, keep all receipts, take pictures and video, and work with their insurance companies.
