Governments Support Sustainable Transportation in Stellarton

Government today, Oct. 28, announced support for a sustainable transportation project in Stellarton that will create a multi-use path between the Pioneer Coal Athletic Field and the Pictou County Wellness Centre.

The Town of Stellarton will receive a $40,000 grant from the province's sustainable transportation grant program, Connect2.

"Pictou County's young people, families, and visitors will benefit greatly from a walkable connection between these two sports hubs," said Michel Samson, Minister of Energy. "We are proud to support this project and help make this connector a reality."

Additional project support will come from Trans Canada Trail and the Municipality of Pictou County.

"The Town of Stellarton is thrilled that the province is able to contribute to this initiative," said Paul Corbin, Stellarton recreation director. "We are privileged to have so many great partners willing to help us create a way for people to participate in active transportation and access these two facilities."

Connect2's goal is to create and promote active transportation options for trips of two kilometres or less between community hubs in rural and urban parts of the province.

More projects will be announced in the coming weeks, and all will be completed by March 10, 2017.
