Passing of Allan J. MacEachen

Lieutenant-Governor

Lt.-Gov. Arthur J. LeBlanc, and Mrs. LeBlanc were saddened to learn of the death of their longtime friend Allan J. MacEachen, former senator, former deputy prime minister of Canada, former minister of the Crown, and longtime member of Parliament from Cape Breton.

"Mr. MacEachen served his nation and province with great distinction throughout his whole life," said Lt.-Gov. LeBlanc. "He was one of the most influential parliamentarians of his time and he will be best remembered for his major role in advancing social legislation, most notably the Medical Care Act in 1966.”

The lieutenant governor and Mrs. LeBlanc will be attending the funeral service for Mr. MacEachen, once arrangements are known.
