More Government Data Released Publicly

New data collections on air quality, confirmed flu cases and post-secondary scholarships are among the new data sets being released to Nova Scotians today, Nov. 6, through the government’s open data portal.

“We are committed to increasing the number of user-friendly government datasets available through the open data portal,” said Internal Services Minister Patricia Arab. “The data can be used by Nova Scotians for personal and professional research, as well as to improve business opportunities and innovations.”

Among the 27 new data collections are:

• air quality measurements from various provincial locations
• confirmed flu cases
• people boarding flights at Halifax Stanfield Airport
• African-Nova Scotian post-secondary scholarships
• pre-primary programs across the province
• various fisheries and aquaculture licences.

The Government of Nova Scotia has regularly published non-sensitive data collections for public use since February 2016. Nova Scotians can go to the open data portal to access data in formats that can be analyzed, manipulated and shared.

The portal has received more than 490,000 page views and almost 22,000 downloads since it was first launched. There are currently 460 datasets available.
