Labour and Advanced Education (Jan. 2011 - Aug. 2021)

Note: A list of graduation ceremonies, times and locations follows this release.

Hundreds of adults from Yarmouth to Sydney are receiving their adult high school diplomas this month, helping to connect them to higher education and better job opportunities at home.

Close to 500 adults will participate in 19 adult graduation ceremonies over the coming weeks. The ceremonies will be hosted by learning partners of the Nova Scotia School for Adult Learning, including the Nova Scotia Community College, adult high schools, Université Sainte-Anne and community-based learning organizations.

Nova Scotia School for Adult Learning provides free learning programs to Nova Scotian adults 19 years and over who have been out of high school for more than one year. The programs are offered in English and French in most communities across the province. They include the Nova Scotia High School Graduation Diploma for Adults, General Educational Development(GED)prep courses, among many others.

“Adult education programs give Nova Scotians the opportunity to improve their literacy skills and prepare for the workforce or more education,” said Heather Patterson, principal of the Cape Breton Victoria Adult High School. “To those considering a return to the classroom, it's never too late to learn, and we are here to help you on your journey.”

More than 8,047 Nova Scotians have received high school diplomas through the program since it began in 2001.

Nova Scotia School for Adult Learning and its partner organizations offer many tuition-free adult learning programs across the province.
