Conflict of Interest Commissioner Retires

Speaker of the House of Assembly Kevin Murphy announced today, June 13, that he has received the resignation of Merlin Nunn as the Conflict of Interest Commissioner of Nova Scotia. Mr. Nunn held the position for almost 21 years. The resignation is effective immediately.

Mr. Murphy thanked Mr. Nunn for his long public service and for the guidance he gave to members of the assembly on conflict of interest.

Premier Stephen McNeil also recognized the former commissioner. “I want to thank retired Justice Nunn for his many years of public service,” said Premier McNeil. “We will ensure the commissioner position is filled as quickly as is reasonable.”

Under the Conflict of Interest Act, the next commissioner will be appointed by cabinet upon consultation with the recognized parties in the House of Assembly and subject to the approval of the House of Assembly. In the interim, cabinet may appoint an acting commissioner.
