Crown Attorneys Appointed in Sydney, Port Hawkesbury

The appointment of two new Crown attorneys in Cape Breton was announced today, June 22, by the Public Prosecution Service.

They are Rochelle Palmer in Sydney and Nicole Campbell in Port Hawkesbury.

“Both Ms. Palmer and Ms. Campbell are very capable, skilled lawyers,” said Martin Herschorn, director of Public Prosecutions. “They will be a valuable addition to our team of Crown attorneys.”

A native of Toronto, Ms. Palmer graduated from the University of Windsor in 2014 with a law degree and masters of social work.

Ms. Palmer articled with the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General, in the Sudbury Crown attorney’s office. In 2015, she was appointed a Crown attorney with the Department of Justice and Public Safety, in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Ms. Palmer was the recipient of several awards and scholarships while in law school including the E. Lindsay Rogin Memorial Award in 2013, the Justice Juanita Westmoreland Leadership Scholarship in 2012 and 2013 and the Honourable Julius Alexander Isaac Scholarship in 2011. She was the vice-president of the central region and moot court chair of the Black Law Students’ Association of Canada, executive member of the Black Law Students’ Association of the University of Windsor and co-founder and executive member of the University of Windsor First Generation Project.

Ms. Campbell is from Coxheath, Cape Breton. She graduated from Dalhousie University in 2012 with a bachelor of arts in sociology and from the University of Birmingham, England in 2015 with a bachelor of laws degree.

Ms. Campbell articled with the Breton Law Group in Sydney focusing on criminal law. She was appointed an associate with Breton Law Group in 2017 and, as part of her practice, has conducted some per diem Crown Attorney work since then.

Ms. Campbell sits on the board of Talbot House, a Cape Breton organization which helps men with addiction, recovery and rehabilitation. She is also a member of 100 Women Who Care Cape Breton, a group committed to making a positive community impact.
