MacLean, Livingstone, Delaney and Disability Rights Coalition of Nova Scotia v. Province of Nova Scotia Hearing Resumes
An independent Nova Scotia human rights board of inquiry in the case of Beth MacLean, Sheila Livingstone, Joseph Delaney and the Disability Rights Coalition of Nova Scotia v. Province of Nova Scotia, will resume on Tuesday, Aug. 7.
The complaint to the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission was brought on behalf of some residents living in an institutionalized setting who have mental and/or physical disabilities. They allege that living in this setting is discriminatory and that they should be housed in small options homes instead.
The hearing will continue until Aug. 10. Additional hearing dates will be announced in the future.
Proceedings will take place at Best Western Plus Chocolate Lake, 250 St. Margarets Bay Rd., Halifax, at 9:30 a.m.
The board chair is J. Walter Thompson, who is independent of the commission. The commission is not representing either party. It represents the public interest.
