Crown Attorneys Appointed in Shelburne, Antigonish
The appointment of two new Crown attorneys in Shelburne and Antigonish was announced today, Aug. 3, by the Public Prosecution Service.
They are Saara Wilson in Shelburne and Jonathan Gavel in Antigonish.
“Both Ms. Wilson and Mr. Gavel are both excellent additions to our team of Crown attorneys,” said Martin Herschorn, director of Public Prosecutions. “Their experience in criminal law is an asset.”
A native of Kirkland Lake, Ont., Ms. Wilson graduated from the University of Ottawa in 1999 with an honours bachelor of social sciences in criminology. She graduated in 2002 from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto and in 2009 with a masters in law from Osgoode Hall Law School.
Ms. Wilson articled with the Toronto law firm of Hicks Block Adams in 2003 and was appointed an associate concentrating on criminal law. In 2008, she became a sole practitioner in criminal defence.
Throughout her career, Ms. Wilson has been active as a tutor, coach and mentor to law students.
Jonathan Gavel is from Antigonish. He graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish in 2008 with a bachelor of arts in psychology and from Dalhousie University in Halifax in 2011 with a bachelor of arts in philosophy. In 2015 he graduated from the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie.
Mr. Gavel articled with James C. MacIntosh Barrister Inc. in Antigonish and was appointed an associate with the firm in 2017. His practise was comprised of family law, real estate, wills and probate as well as criminal law. Mr. Gavel has also done per diem Crown attorney work over the last several months.
As a student, Mr. Gavel worked and volunteered with youth from disadvantaged backgrounds and individuals with intellectual disabilities.
