This Year’s Most Popular Baby Names in Nova Scotia

NOTE: A list of the top baby names for 2018 follows this release. The 2018 information is current as of today, Dec. 28.

For the third year in a row, William is Nova Scotians’ favourite baby name. According to Nova Scotia's Registry of Vital Statistics, as of Dec. 28, Nova Scotia welcomed 61 babies named William.

Of the 7,930 registered births in Nova Scotia up to Dec. 28, the top 10 names were William, Benjamin, Olivia, Sophia, Hunter, Lincoln, Charlotte, Emma, Jack and Noah.

The most popular names usually remain fairly consistent over the years, however, there are a few new names gaining popularity such as Isla and Addison with some old favourites coming back like John and Henry.

Nova Scotia began formally registering births on Aug. 1, 1864. The most popular names that year were Mary and John.
