Launch of Award for Culinary Excellence

A new award launched today, March 13, recognizes top Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) culinary students.

At a ceremony at the college’s Akerley Campus, Lt.-Gov. Arthur J. LeBlanc launched the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Culinary Excellence.

It is the custom for Nova Scotia’s Lieutenant Governors to establish awards that recognize excellence during their time in office.

The award was developed in partnership with the college and is the first award to be created during the tenure of Lt.-Gov. LeBlanc.

"Since my installation as Lieutenant Governor, I have worked to encourage post-secondary education, not just at degree-granting universities, but also at the community college,” said Lt.-Gov. Arthur J. LeBlanc. "It is a great pleasure to partner with NSCC to create an award that recognizes excellence by students in culinary programming.”

“We are extremely proud of our culinary programs and the amazing graduates coming from them, so we are thrilled to have the Lieutenant Governor’s first award recognize excellence amongst these students,” said Don Bureaux, president of the Nova Scotia Community College.

The awards program for culinary excellence features six awards, one at each NSCC campus offering culinary programming. From the six award recipients, one student will be selected to receive the top honour, including a medal for culinary excellence. The recipients will be assessed on academic performance, dedication and commitment to the culinary profession, and community involvement. The awards will be presented annually at a ceremony at Government House.
