New NSLC President and CEO Appointed

Greg Hughes of Waverley, Nova Scotia has been appointed president and CEO of the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation (NSLC).

Finance and Treasury Board Minister Karen Casey announced the appointment today, May 1.

“We are pleased to have Mr. Hughes join the NSLC as president and CEO,” said Ms. Casey. “Mr. Hughes comes to the role with extensive corporate leadership experience, which will benefit the NSLC as it continues to implement its expanded mandate.”

Mr. Hughes is an executive and entrepreneur with a progressive career in financial management, business operations, leadership, and client relations. He has experience as a president and CEO of CleanEarth Technologies, which he purchased and rebuilt. Most recently he founded CleanEarth Industrial Services.

Mr. Hughes also has more than 20 years at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) in Halifax and was formerly general manager of operations for Atlantic Canada. He has a bachelor of commerce degree from Saint Mary’s University and is chair of the board of the Nova Scotia chapter of the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada.

“I am very pleased and excited about this new opportunity. It is an honour to be appointed to this position and to be working with the exceptional team at the NSLC,” said Mr. Hughes.

The appointment will be effective May 31. His salary will be $243,000.

Mr. Hughes's appointment follows a national search conducted after the departure of former NSLC president Bret Mitchell in February. NSLC board chair George McLellan has been acting in the position in the interim.
