Communities across the province will benefit from a $500,000 investment in projects to create more inviting public spaces for citizens and to help attract visitors.

Chuck Porter, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing made the announcement today, June 7, in Windsor, where $20,500 will help install lighting, benches, an accessible gazebo, picnic areas, flagpoles, interpretive panels and a viewing platform on the Causeway Trail.

“Key investments like this rejuvenate our communities, foster local pride, encourage economic development and enhance the character of municipalities, said Mr. Porter. “We want to support the development of attractive and inviting public areas where our residents and visitors are enticed to spend time enjoying what our communities have to offer.”

Through the Beautification and Streetscaping Program, Municipal Affairs and Housing partners with municipalities to fund projects in communities such as landscaping, interpretive and entrance signs, lighting for public spaces and public restrooms.

“The Causeway Trail Project has brought partners together to create a vibrant and welcoming waterfront for all to enjoy,” said West Hants Warden Abraham Zebian. “New flagpoles will allow us to fly flags during cultural events creating an atmosphere for an all-inclusive community.”

“This trail symbolizes the connection of two communities around a beautiful lake and it will add to the vitality and vibrancy of our people and neighbourhood,” said Laurie Murley, deputy mayor of Windsor. “Thank you to all funding partners for making this happen.”
