Nova Scotia Exporters Celebrated at Nova Scotia Export Achievement Awards

The winners of the 35th annual Nova Scotia Export Achievement Awards were announced today, June 12.

Northern Business Intelligence was awarded the Exporter of the Year, under $5 million award and MetOcean Telematics received the Exporter of the Year, over $5 million award.

“Congratulations to all the award winners and nominees,” said Premier Stephen McNeil. “Growing our exports is an essential part of building our economy. Nova Scotia businesses like the ones recognized today are proving they can compete on the world stage and I hope their success will inspire others to pursue export opportunities.”

The Nova Scotia Export Achievement Awards celebrate Nova Scotia exporting companies and are presented by Nova Scotia Business Inc. and its sponsors. There are two exporters of the year and five categories to recognize a wider array of exporters.

“We’re proud of our exporters and their achievements and want to celebrate them,” said Laurel Broten, president and CEO of Nova Scotia Business Inc. “We’re delighted to showcase a new group of well-deserving businesses.”

Category winners are:

  • New Exporter Champion of the Year – Site 2020, Dartmouth
  • Business of Diversity Champion of the Year – Peace by Chocolate, Antigonish
  • Canadian Market Champion of the Year – Totally Raw Pet Food, Dartmouth
  • International Market Champion of the Year – MetOcean Telematics, Dartmouth
  • Innovation in Business Champion of the Year – InterTalk Critical Information Systems, Dartmouth

Since the annual awards began in 1983, more than 250 companies have been honoured. Last year’s recipient of the Exporter of the Year over $5 million award, Tony’s Meats has continued to see export success.

“Nationally, we saw a 40 per cent increase in our Mr.DonairTM sales. With the support of the province’s many export tools and services, our future is brighter than ever and we continue to successfully move forward,” said Lenita Hanson, director of operations and product development for Tony’s Meats. “We are presently pursuing export certification for the European Union and have been recently approached about trade into the United Arab Emirates.”
