Health and Wellness

Nova Scotians will have access to a new long-term care facility with more beds.

Villa Acadienne in Meteghan, Municipality of the District of Clare in Digby Co., is being replaced. The new home will have 10 new beds, for a total of 96 beds.

“Nova Scotians expect and deserve quality long-term care options,” said Health and Wellness Minister Randy Delorey. “That’s why we’re replacing facilities and adding new beds.”

The new long-term care home will be built at the site of the Clare Bluegrass Festival. Nycum and Associates is working on the design now. Once complete and approved, they’ll move forward with construction.

“The Board of Directors of Villa Acadienne has been working on this new facility proposal for some time now,” said Marcel Cottreau, president, Villa Acadienne board of directors. “To have the Minister of Health and Wellness today officially announce the replacement facility with 10 additional new beds is great news for both Villa Acadienne and our entire community.”

This year, government announced 74 new long-term care beds in North Sydney and New Waterford, and a proposal is underway for Mahone Bay.
