George Karaphillis of East Bay, Cape Breton Regional Municipality and Jolene MacEachern of Debert, Colchester Co. were announced as new members of Invest Nova Scotia’s board of directors today, Aug. 9.

Mr. Karaphillis is dean of the Shannon School of Business at Cape Breton University, where he also taught quantitative methods, finance, IT strategy and entrepreneurship. He co-owned a computer solutions business for over 25 years and helped companies implement information and accounting systems.

Ms. MacEachern is manager of the Industry Liaison and Innovation Office at Dalhousie’s Agricultural Campus in Truro, responsible for the agriculture and aquaculture portfolios. She co-owns Folly Farms, a 300-acre, 130-cattle dairy farm and understands the crucial role of data in successful farm management and the way we feed the world.

They will both serve four-year terms on the board.

“We are pleased to welcome George and Jolene to the board. Both have business backgrounds in industries that were identified in the ONE Nova Scotia report as potential high-growth areas,” said Kenneth Deveau, chair of Invest Nova Scotia. “Their leadership and insight will be great additions as we continue to fund innovative projects to help grow our economy.”

“George and Jolene have a thorough understanding of the important role innovation plays in helping a business remain successful,” said Business Minister Geoff MacLellan. “Their experience will help guide Invest Nova Scotia as they continue to help innovation thrive in our province.”

Invest Nova Scotia was established in 2014 as an independent decision-making board for granting economic incentives. Projects must spark innovation, be collaborative, measurable and sustainable and advance the strategic goals of the ONE Nova Scotia Coalition.
