Aquaculture Mission to Norway

Fisheries and Aquaculture

Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Keith Colwell is leading a delegation to Norway in support of Nova Scotia’s growing aquaculture sector.

In addition to attending Aqua Nor 2019 in Trondheim, the world’s largest aquaculture technology trade show, the mission will introduce municipal officials to the finfish aquaculture industry and communities involved in it. The delegation will be in Norway Aug. 15 to Aug. 25.

“Nova Scotia seafood is known internationally as a high-quality product which creates strong economic opportunities for Nova Scotia,” said Mr. Colwell. “This trip will help our community leaders become better informed about the potential for aquaculture development in their own communities.”

Four Nova Scotia municipal representatives are attending from the districts of Lunenburg, Chester and Guysborough.

The delegation is part of a broader 50-delegate Atlantic Canadian mission of industry and government representatives visiting aquaculture facilities in coastal communities and attending Aqua Nor.

The Nova Scotia delegation will meet with government representatives from coastal communities that have finfish aquaculture farms to learn more about the opportunities they present for their communities.

Norway is the number one producer of salmon in the world.

Nova Scotia’s aquaculture sector is valued at $116 million.
