Controlled Access Highway in Digby Opens

Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (Oct. 2007 - Feb. 2021)

Travellers now have a safer road to drive on through Digby County.

The controlled access highway from Digby to Marshalltown officially opened today, Aug 28.

“Improvements to this highway will help families, residents and visitors reach their destinations more safely and efficiently.
"This is an important step in continuing the controlled access highway between Digby and Weymouth,” said Environment Minister Gordon Wilson, on behalf of Lloyd Hines, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal.

The project includes four kilometres of controlled access highway from Exit 26 to Marshalltown, a new interchange into Digby and a new multi-trail bridge over the highway in Conway that opened in September 2018.

Quick Facts:

  • total project cost: $24.1 million. Provincial contribution is $16.5 million and federal contribution is $7.6 million
  • project was announced in October 2014
  • multi-use bridge is part of the Rails to Trails network
  • province spending $300 million to improve roads, highways and bridges for 2019-20
  • there are 23,000 kilometres of roads and highways in Nova Scotia
