Refunds for Pre-arranged Funerals with J.M. Curry Funeral Home

Service Nova Scotia and Internal Services (July 2019 - May 2023)

Government is working to help people get a refund from J.M. Curry Funeral Home for pre-arranged funeral payments.

The funeral home, located in Glace Bay, declared bankruptcy and closed in March 2019. Government is only aware of two cases where the funeral home did not refund payments, but there may be others.

“Every step possible is being taken to protect consumers and help them get their money back,” said Rodger Gregg, registrar of Cemetery and Funeral Services. “Anyone who paid J.M. Curry Funeral Home for a pre-arranged funeral and did not get a refund or have their contract transferred are encouraged to contact the department.”

Anyone who paid for a pre-arranged funeral and has a copy of their contract and proof of payment should contact Service Nova Scotia and Internal Services at 902-424-5819 before Oct. 15.

Quick Facts:

  • the department seized the funeral home’s $20,000 bond for failure to comply with the Cemetery and Funeral Services Act
  • the bond will be used to help pay refunds
