New Schools Open in Halifax, Yarmouth

Education and Early Childhood Development

Two new schools welcomed students for the first time this September, LeMarchant-St. Thomas Elementary in Halifax and Yarmouth Elementary School.

“Students spend most of their day in school and we want their learning spaces to be modern, innovative and inclusive,” said Zach Churchill, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development. “I’m proud to see these new schools open in our province and look forward to hearing about the experiences students, teachers and school staff have in these new learning spaces.”

The schools have been designed to meet environmental and efficiency LEED standards, include gender neutral washrooms and collaborative learning areas.

Quick Facts:

  • Yarmouth Elementary School will serve about 300 students from pre-primary to Grade 6
  • LeMarchant-St. Thomas Elementary will serve about 500 students from primary to Grade 6
  • $19.5 million invested to build Yarmouth Elementary
  • $24.9 million invested to build LeMarchant-St. Thomas Elementary.
