Nova Scotia Film and Television Production Incentive Fund Increase for 2019-20

Business (April 2015 - Feb. 2021)

To help meet growing demand from the provincial film industry, government has added $6 million to the Nova Scotia Film Fund, for a total budget of $26 million for 2019-20.

“This is good news for our screen industry and for our province,” said Business Minister Geoff MacLellan. “It is important to have a fund that works for the local film community while also being transparent and predictable for government and taxpayers.”

The fund is administered by Nova Scotia Business Inc. and allows government to budget annual investments in film based on fiscal ability. It provides accountability, requirements for the use of Nova Scotia talent and direct economic benefits for Nova Scotians by funding approved productions based on eligible spending within the province.

Quick facts:

  • for the 2019-20 fiscal year, NSBI has announced 51 productions with funding commitments of more than $18.4 million, based on $62.6 million in Nova Scotia spending by productions that have accessed the fund
  • there were 49 productions in total last fiscal, with a total funding commitment of $22.9 million
