Criminal Code Review Board Chair Appointed
Government has appointed former Justice Suzanne Hood as chairperson of the Criminal Code Review Board.
The review board makes and reviews treatment and release decisions of those found not criminally responsible by reason of mental disorder or who are unfit to stand trial.
Ms. Hood’s appointment is effective Nov. 28.
The exiting chairperson of the Criminal Code Review Board, Peter Lederman, has served on the board for more than 17 years and has been in the role of chair since 2002.
“I want to welcome Ms. Hood to this important role and thank Mr. Lederman for his many years of dedicated service as chairperson of the Criminal Code Review Board,” said Mark Furey, Attorney General and Minister of Justice.
- former Justice Suzanne Hood was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1977 and served for 23 years as a judge of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia
- she retired from the bench on Oct. 31, 2018
- to ensure continuity of care, government made regulatory changes earlier this year that enables the chairperson to complete any unfinished matter up to six months after their term ends
