Film Production Announced

Nova Scotia Business Inc. (Dec. 2004 - Nov. 2022)

Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI) announced a newly approved production through the Nova Scotia Film and Television Production Incentive Fund today, March 3.

Dramatic web series, I am Syd Stone, produced by Dog Pound Productions Inc. has been approved for a funding commitment of $45,884 based on eligible Nova Scotia expenditure of $158,222.

  • the seven-episode character drama explores the emotional toll placed on a famous actor struggling to reconcile his sexuality with his reputation as a Hollywood heartthrob
  • the series was one of two Nova Scotia productions funded in 2019 by Telefilm Canada’s Talent to Watch program
  • the series is based on a character developed in the short film of the same name, that’s been viewed online more than one million times and was nominated for an Iris Prize, the ACTRA Maritimes Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role and won the Best Canadian Short Award at the Silver Wave Film Festival in 2014
  • the series wrapped production in December 2019, filming around Halifax over 15 days
  • I am Syd Stone stars Travis Nelson of Tucker and Dale vs Evil as Syd Stone, with Benjamin Charles Watson from Designated Survivor and Daiva Johnston of Murdoch Mysteries. The series was created by writer/director Denis Theriault and producer Gharrett Patrick Paon
