Chester Grant Fire Update, May 23, 10 a.m.
Provincial wildfire fighting crews returned at first light today, May 23, to the Chester Grant, Lunenburg Co., area to fight a forest fire that started Friday, May 22. There are 14 fire departments, water supply tankers and Lands and Forestry staff on the scene.
Fire activity is low and crews are working hard to contain it before conditions worsen. A provincial helicopter that was assisting has been released from duty.
The fire is estimated to have covered about 27 hectares.
The public is asked to avoid the area.
- the fire started at around 4:30 p.m., Friday
- with assistance from local fire departments, Lands and Forestry crews, including two helicopters, responded and put out a large part of the fire before leaving the scene at about 9 p.m.
- two structures were damaged yesterday
- the cause of the fire is unknown
