Gyasi Symonds v. Halifax Regional Municipality/Halifax Regional Police

An independent human rights board of inquiry in the matter of Gyasi Symonds v. Halifax Regional Municipality and Halifax Regional Police is scheduled to begin next week in Halifax.

The complainant has alleged they were discriminated against on the basis of their race and/or colour while interacting with the respondent.

The hearing is scheduled to take place over three days: Thursday, Nov. 5, Nov. 6 and Nov. 10 beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Best Western Chocolate Lake Hotel, 250 St. Margarets Bay Rd., Halifax. Board chair Benjamin Perryman will oversee the proceedings.

Due to social distancing guidelines and gathering limits, media and members of the public who wish to attend will be required to wear a mask and adhere to current public health guidelines. Due to limited space attendees will be granted admission on a first-come-first-served basis.
