NOTE: A list of scholarship recipients follows this release

The province is supporting the next generation of the energy and mines sector by awarding scholarships to 20 Nova Scotia students.

The Nova Scotia Energy and Mines Scholarship program – previously named the Pengrowth-Nova Scotia Energy Scholarship – supports students pursuing energy- and mining-related studies at post-secondary institutions in the province.

“The energy and mines sectors are important economic contributors in our province, and this scholarship will help ensure a skilled workforce in these fields,” said Energy and Mines Minister Derek Mombourquette. “I want to thank Pengrowth for its support of this scholarship over the last 15 years. We remain committed to supporting our students as the department carries it forward.”

Eight students enrolled at Nova Scotia Community College will receive a one-time $2,500 scholarship for energy- and mining-related disciplines. Eight other students enrolled in university programs will receive a renewable scholarship of $10,000 ($2,500 per year for four years). Four students pursuing a graduate degree in science, earth science and engineering disciplines will receive a Nova Scotia Energy and Mines Innovation Grant of $15,000 ($7,500 per year, renewable over two years) to support their research.
