Auditor General Appointed

Premier's Office

Today, March 11, Premier Iain Rankin welcomed the appointment of Kim Adair-MacPherson as Nova Scotia’s new auditor general. Her appointment was approved by the House of Assembly and is effective May 3.

Ms. Adair-MacPherson has extensive experience in financial and performance auditing, serving as New Brunswick’s auditor general since 2010.

“I want to welcome Ms. Adair-MacPherson to Nova Scotia and this important role,” said Premier Rankin.

“The auditor general’s office is a critical part of government accountability and transparency and I wish her the best.”

Ms. Adair-MacPherson will replace acting auditor general Terry Spicer, who is retiring March 31. Mr. Spicer has been in the position since July 2020, taking over from former auditor general Michael Pickup, who left to become the auditor general in British Columbia.

The new auditor general was selected after a national search led by Knightsbridge Robertson Surrette and input from an independent panel of experts.

Quick Facts:

  • Ms. Adair-MacPherson has more than 30 years of experience with the New Brunswick government
  • under Nova Scotia’s Auditor General Act, the governor-in-council appoints the auditor general, subject to the approval of the House of Assembly by majority vote
  • the act also states that the auditor general holds office for a term not exceeding 10 years and may not be reappointed
