Wine Awards Call for Submissions

Lieutenant-Governor

The call for submissions for the 2021 Lieutenant-Governor's Award for Excellence in Nova Scotia Wines was announced today, March 23.

The award, established by Lt.-Gov. J.J. Grant in 2014, recognizes the outstanding quality of locally sourced and produced wines and honours the commitment and craft of those in Nova Scotia's wine industry.

“We are blessed in Nova Scotia to have a wonderful wine industry that is producing highly reputable wines,” said Lt.-Gov. Arthur J. LeBlanc. “Notwithstanding that our wine producers have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, they have endeavoured to make their vineyards and wine tasting venues a major tourism attraction in the province. I offer my thanks for their ongoing support to the annual wine award that is now in its eighth year.”

The award is administered with the Taste of Nova Scotia and Wine Growers Nova Scotia (formerly the Winery Association of Nova Scotia). These organizations will outline the submission process and criteria to their member wineries. The deadline for submissions is Friday, May 14.

Quick Facts:

  • each winery is invited to submit up to three commercially available wines made with 100 per cent Nova Scotian grapes
  • the wines will be judged through a blind tasting process by a panel of 10 independent wine experts in June
  • up to five wines will be selected for the annual award
  • the winning wines will be announced at an awards ceremony at Government House in Halifax in July
  • each winning winery will be presented with a medal and certificate and is permitted to advertise that their wine was an award winner
