Public Events to Celebrate Nova Scotia Heritage and Artistic Excellence

Nova Scotians are invited to attend the 2021 Fall Evenings at Government House series hosted by Lt.-Gov. Arthur J. LeBlanc.

"Patsy and I are delighted to host the ninth season of Evenings at Government House since my installation as lieutenant-governor," said Lt.-Gov. LeBlanc. "This series of events strives to celebrate Nova Scotia’s rich artistic talent and allows us to delve into our fascinating history, heritage and culture.”

The series includes a performance by two young musicians, a presentation on Halifax’s historic cemeteries, a presentation on Canada’s contribution to the D-Day military campaign and a performance by renowned Mi’kmaw singer Michael R. Denny.

All events take place at Government House, 1451 Barrington St., Halifax, adhering to the public health order and directives related to COVID-19. Guests will be required to wear masks while inside Government House.

Events are scheduled for the following Tuesdays from 7 to 8 p.m.:

  • Sept. 21 - Professor Marc Milner returns to present on the D-Day campaign and the role that Canadians played in the operation that turned the tide of the Second World War (rescheduled from April 2021)
  • Oct. 5 - Nova Scotia Talent Trust scholarship recipients Ella and Abby Hanson will give a traditional Gaelic music performance that will include the fiddle, piano and step-dancing
  • Oct. 19 - Michael R. Denny: Mi’kmaw songs of land, water and celebration
  • Nov. 2 - Craig Ferguson, author of the Twitter feed Dead in Halifax (@deadinHalifax), will present on the historic cemeteries of Halifax
  • Nov. 16 - the Gary Jobson film The Magic & Mystery of Sable Island will be screened, with moderation provided by Parks Canada representatives The events are free. Because seating is limited to 25, people must register online at https://lt.gov.ns.ca/ or by calling 902-424-7001. People may reserve a maximum of two seats per registration.

Registration will open two weeks before each presentation and close on the Thursday preceding the performance. There will be a random draw for seats and those selected will be notified by the Friday preceding the performance. Names drawn with an accompanying guest will be allocated two seats.
