Provincial Exhibition Reopens After Three Years

Agriculture

The Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition in Bible Hill is back this week for the first time since 2019.

“Agricultural exhibitions are as important to families and communities as they are to the industry,” said Greg Morrow, Minister of Agriculture. “This is the first time we’ve been able to gather for the provincial exhibition since before the pandemic, and there are so many great events planned. We hope to see you there.”

This year’s events include horse and ox pulls, barrel racing and a sheepdog show, along with other fan favourites, such as the demolition derby, ATV drag race and a demonstration from the Highland Highwaymen Cowboy Mounted Shooting Club. There will be a food-truck rally on the grounds and live music in the evenings.

Opening ceremonies begin at 6 p.m. today, August 23, and the exhibition runs until Thursday, August 25. To celebrate the event’s return, admission to the grounds is free for everyone. Certain special events, including the demolition derby and the ATV drag race, will have a $5 cost for people 12 and older.

Work is underway to upgrade and modernize the exhibition site – a $10-million infrastructure project that includes updates to the grandstand and show centre, a new horse barn, a renovated cattle barn and other improvements.

The annual exhibition is an agriculture-based community event, showcasing the latest in agricultural innovation and excellence from around the province. The full schedule of events is available at: https://www.nspe.ca/nspe/schedule .

Quotes:

“I’ve been part of 4-H for about nine years now. As a kid, I loved seeing the older 4-H club members show their animals, which makes showing my own that much more special. I’m really looking forward to having the exhibition back again this year.”

– Katie Hatfield, Ambassador, Colchester County 4-H Council
