New Funding to Help Recruit, Retain Healthcare Workers in Yarmouth

New funding from the Government of Nova Scotia will help recruit and retain healthcare professionals for the people of Yarmouth.

The Yarmouth Region Medical Professional Recruitment Partnership will expand a “community onboarding” initiative that welcomes new healthcare providers to the area and helps them establish strong ties to the community so they want to stay.

“First impressions last a lifetime,” said Michelle Thompson, Minister responsible for the Office of Healthcare Professionals Recruitment. “This program will help healthcare professionals feel like they are valued members of the Yarmouth community from Day 1 and into the future.”

The funding is from the government’s new Office of Healthcare Professionals Recruitment Community Fund. A total of 28 groups across Nova Scotia applied by the December 19 deadline, and more successful applicants will be notified in the coming weeks.

The fund, worth $2 million in total, is among the recruitment and retention initiatives outlined in Action for Health, the Province’s plan to improve healthcare.
