Water Infrastructure Upgrades in Inverness

The Province is investing in water infrastructure upgrades in Inverness that will help prepare the town for future growth.

The project will replace the community’s outdated wastewater treatment facility to provide more efficient treatment and release cleaner water into local waterways. It will also upgrade the water distribution network and wastewater sanitary systems on Central Avenue and Veteran's Memorial Court.

“This will be one of the largest infrastructure projects for a community in Nova Scotia,” said Finance and Treasury Board Minister Allan MacMaster, MLA for Inverness. “People in Inverness will get better drinking water that is easier on home appliances. It will also mean a future without pipes bursting underneath these streets. First impressions matter, and this will help Inverness to look even more like the world-class tourism destination that it is.”

The total project cost is about $24.4 million. The Province is investing about $8.1 million, the Government of Canada is contributing $9.8 million and the Municipality of the County of Inverness has committed $6.5 million.
