The Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA), IWK Health Centre and the Nova Scotia Council of Health Care Unions have a new collective agreement for health-care workers.

The province and Nova Scotia Teachers Union (NSTU) have appointed an independent three-person expert panel to recommend ways to protect and strengthen the Teachers’ Pension Plan.

Government will fund public sector employers in health authorities, long-term care, disability support programs and home care to pay all their licensed practical nurses (LPNs) at the same rate.

We welcome the arbitrator’s decision. It maintains our wage pattern, with a seven per cent wage increase over six years and provides the option for early payout of the public service award. This is in line with other recent settlements, including all other civil service employees.

The members of the four unions that make up the Health Care Council of Unions have ratified an agreement with the Nova Scotia Health Authority and IWK Health Centre to accept a final and binding mediation-arbitration process to resolve outstanding issues not addressed through collective bargaining.

Government is referring more sections of the Public Services Sustainability Act to the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal for review, including sections that deal with the Public Service Award.
